„Ost-Berlin“ ist das Zeugnis einer verschwundenen Stadt, die seit der Maueröffnung nur noch Legende ist, auch wenn sie als Echo weiterlebt, in ihrer Architektur und vor allem ihren Menschen. Das Buch erschien in seiner ursprünglichen Form 1987 in Westdeutschland. In der DDR verboten, erlangte es dort dennoch Kultstatus.
Die Neuausgabe wurde ergänzt durch noch unveröffentlichtes Fotomaterial von Harald Hauswald sowie einen Essay von Lutz Rathenow zur Wirkungsgeschichte des Buches.

"Ost-Berlin" is the testimony of a city that has disappeared, one that since the opening of the Wall is now only a legend, eben if it lives on as an echo, in its architecture and above all its people. In its original form the book was published in 1987 in West Germany. Banned in the GDR, it nevertheless attained cult status there. This new edition includes previously unpublishes photos by Hauswald as well as an essay by Lutz Rathenow on the history of the book´s impact.
